Saddened is how I feel. Mr. Loveless was a real genuine person who was tough as nails. We all had a great time with him as he did lots of stuff for all of us in the neighborhood. My sympathy to the family.

I have such great memories of being with Gene. Seeing how much he enjoyed putting his boat in the water at Travers Island and watching him scull off for many miles; his description of what it was like to teach and study at Notre Dame; Ara Parseghian’s reaction when Gene, who had learned the game playing outdoors in the Bronx, beat Ara, an experienced player, in a pick-up handball game; taking part in a middle-aged men’s skinny dip (with underwear still on!) off Great Point on Nantucket; helping me to avoid an altercation in a restaurant on Nantucket; giving me terrific advice and counsel when trying to figure out how to handle a situation; how much he loved Mary Ellen and their kids; and the expression on his face when he danced with Lea at her wedding in Chicago. We will miss being with him but we have a plethora of memories to enjoy. Barbara and I send our condolences to Mary Ellen and their progeny. A great man has passed away.
