Giordano, Vito A. December 1, 1934 - August 18, 2020

Vito A. Giordano of Eastchester passed away peacefully on August 18, 2020 at the age of 85 following an eighteen month battle with leukemia.

Born in Brooklyn on December 1, 1934 to Margherita and Tommaso Giordano, Vito was raised in the Belmont section of the Bronx where he and his two brothers were well-known for their formidable fast pitch softball skills. He continued to play the game competitively until he was 77 years old.

Vito attended Cardinal Hayes High School, playing baseball and football, and graduated from Fordham College in 1956. He received his M.S. in Education from Fordham University. He proudly served as an officer in the United States Navy, retiring from the Naval Reserve after thirty-one years of service holding the rank of Captain.

In ‘late December back in ‘63’ Vito married his ‘Sweet Caroline’, Carolyn D’Oraze, a French teacher at Albert Leonard Junior High School in New Rochelle. They were happily married for over fifty-six years.

Vito’s career reflected his broad range of talents and interests. In 1960 he was appointed Supervisor of Senior Activities for the New Rochelle Recreation Commission. He later held the post of Special Assistant to County Executive Edwin Michaelian for Senior and Youth Services. He was Project Director at the School of General Studies of Fordham University in pre- retirement planning, and was Director of Education and Rehabilitation for the visually impaired at the Light House. He served as Trustee for the Eastchester Board of Education, and for the Thomas C. Giordano Memorial Education Fund. Later, for over twenty-five years Vito worked with Fortune 500 and 100 companies teaching advanced skills in the area of leadership development.

Twenty years ago Vito was introduced to the Sisters of Life, a religious order established by Cardinal O’Connor to help preserve the sanctity of life in all stages. He was a devoted supporter of their work and endeavored to enhance their mission by teaching them and their network of volunteers communication and presentation skills. It was a labor of love.

Vito had a true zest for living until the very end, a profound love of people of all ages and walks of life, a keen wit and great sense of humor. With these qualities, he easily captured the affection of anyone in his presence.

Vito is predeceased by his parents and his brothers Frank and Thomas. He is survived by his devoted wife Carolyn, their four children and their families: Thomas and Suzanne Giordano, Stephen and Libby Giordano, Greta and Bernard Liberatore, Maria and Joseph Greco and fourteen beloved grandchildren: Vito, Gianluca, Thomas, Andrew, Giorgio, Marco, Simone, Lucia and Anna Giordano, Alessandro Liberatore and Carolina, Camilla, Valentina and Benedetta Greco (with a yet un-named Greco on the way!). He is also survived by his sister Catherine Menninger, sisters-in-law Laura Giordano and Dolores Pfeiffer and many nieces and nephews.
