Geis, Jeanne Ann May 2, 1943 - December 27, 2021

Geis, Jeanne Ann Kerins, lost her brief but valiant struggle with Covid on Monday, December 27, 2021.

Jeanne Ann was born 78 years ago in New York City and raised in Woodlawn, the Bronx.  She attended St. Barnabas Elementary School and High School and graduated with honors from Iona College where she also received a Masters in Education.

In 1965, she married a neighborhood boy, Joseph Geis, and together they raised 3 wonderful children in Crestwood, a place that she loved and where she made deep and lasting friendships. Like her mother, she was a stalwart Catholic, praying to the Blessed Mother every day, believing in the power of the Memorare to help and heal all those around her.

She considered teaching a calling and she devoted all of her creative resources and imagination to expanding the experiences and the minds of her students at St. Ignatius Loyola School in Manhattan and at St. John the Baptist School in Yonkers.

Jeanne Ann was a sensitive and emotional human being who loved a cup of tea, the rain, correct grammar, artist Mary Cassatt, Our Lady of Knock, the company of dear friends and, especially, anyone who grew up in Woodlawn. As one of them so beautifully remembers her “Of all the Kerins 11 children, Jeanne Ann stands out as their keystone of decency, respectfulness, purity and simplicity.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Dorothy Kerins, brothers Stephen, Eddie, Paul and Kevin, and her beloved sister, Dorothy Boera (Bill), who was also taken by Covid this year.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Joseph Geis, their loving children Joseph Jr. (Carolyn), Christine, and Justin, and the granddaughters who gave her bragging rights, Haley and Taylor Geis and Delia Murray. She also leaves behind brothers Hughie (Marguerite) and Sean (Janet) and sisters Mary Beth Sheibar, Patti Dauer, and Alice Gannon, and a big and truly heartbroken extended family.

Arrangements are pending.

I am so sorry. I know what it is like to loose the rock of the family. Aunt Jeanne Ann was a special person who was so devoted to her family. They meant everything to her. She was also very devoted to her religion just as my mom. They had many similarities. My heart goes out to all of you. She was so wonderful with uncle Joseph the love they shared was very special. No two people belonged together as they did. I love you. May God Bless and keep you in the palm of his hands. God be with the family as you start to heal. My love to everyone Mary Beth

One word that always comes to mind when I think of Jeanne Ann is “sparkle.” During they heyday of seemingly endless “Crestwood Parties,” you knew she had arrived when you heard her laugh rise above the music. Always smiling, Jeanne Ann was a ? in the group and, more importantly, a true friend. May you rest in peace, Jeanne Ann…albeit all too soon.

I remember Jeanne Ann when I was in third grade, and she was in sixth. She took me home and introduced me to her 11 brothers and sisters. I lived two doors away and her family was so welcoming to me.
Her memories will live with me forever.

Hard to imagine Crestwood without Jeanne Ann, she was such a vibrant personality. We consider ourselves to be very lucky to have befriended the Geis family early upon our move into Crestwood and the subsequent memories of her throughout the years make her passing all the harder to overcome. Like all of Crestwood we are available to support you in any way possible.
