Frey, Elaine M. September 3, 1938 - June 21, 2020

 Elaine M. Frey

1938 – 2020

Elaine passed away peacefully on June 21, 2020. She was a loving mother to Denise (Charles) McCormack and the late William Frey Jr. Devoted grandmother of Amanda, Alison, and Kristen McCormack. Dear sister of the late Virginia (Hugh) Murtagh.

Elaine was born in the Bronx, New York to Zenon and Adele Novak in 1938. She attended Villa Maria Academy in the Bronx. Elaine worked for many years as a real estate secretary then served as a clerk for the City of Yonkers until her retirement. She worked hard to raise her two children, Denise and Billy.

Prior to getting married, Elaine worked for Pan Am Airlines and traveled extensively. She loved to share stories and pictures of her travels which included Egypt, Greece, Hawaii, Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, and Tokyo. Later in life, she cherished her trips to the Virgin Islands with her sister and cousins.

Elaine had many interests. She loved art and many of her paintings are displayed in the house. She passed her artistic talents onto her granddaughters. She also loved animals and nature. In fact, she enjoyed trips to the zoo and the Botanical Garden. Her favorite recent trip included the Train show and Orchid show at the Botanical Gardens. There wasn’t a holiday that Elaine, or Cookie as family called her, did not like. She decorated for every holiday and loved celebrating birthdays (planning out everyone’s gifts months and months ahead of time).

Many of her passions are shared with her granddaughters; the love of reading, nature, art, crime shows and Jeopardy.

Elaine faced many hardships in her life, including a 16 year battle with Parkinson’s disease and the loss of her son years earlier. She is a true inspiration and role model for her family as she handled each hardship with grace, dignity, perseverance, strength, and most importantly a sense of humor and unwavering faith in God.

Elaine spent the last two years living with her daughter Denise, son in law Charles and her granddaughters Amanda, Alison and Kristen. It was cherished family time spent together.
