Fitzpatrick, Margaret M April 20, 1941 - November 2, 2018

Margaret Mary Fitzpatrick, a long-time resident of Pelham, New Rochelle and then White Plains died on November 2nd.  She was born in 1942 in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in Pelham with her parents, Richard and Agnes, and her three brothers, Richard, Jimmy, and Tommy.  Margaret taught English and then returned to school to become an attorney, and rose to the level of Partner at the New Rochelle firm of McGovern, Connelly, and Davidson.  She and her first husband Philip Margiotta of New Rochelle had two sons, John and Jimmy; and with her second husband Frederick Martin of White Plains she became stepmother to Eileen, John, Tommy, Freddy, Michael, Margaret, Maureen, Tara, Patrice, Julie, and Mary Paige.  She was also a wonderful mother-in-law to Joan and Nicole, and proud grandmother to her son John’s children Kate, Maddie and Lucy, and her son Jimmy’s children James, Anna, Isabella and Jack. Margaret will be remembered for her warm and generous spirit. She loved her grandchildren deeply and spent as much of her free time as she could with them.  She was also artistic and creative and had a keen eye for color, fashion, and art. She loved to sew and to read, to go to art museums, the ballet, and the theater; and above all, to travel. She and Fred were lucky enough to travel the world, including her favorite destination, Africa, many times. Margaret had boundless energy and loved to walk, bike, and most of all, swim in the ocean and at the New York Athletic Club.  Margaret was known for her personal style and flair and could always be seen wearing layers of colorful scarves as she was beautiful both inside and out. In addition to her family, Margaret made lifelong friends everywhere she went and is remembered fondly by the many people she touched with her openness and warmth. Margaret was afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and left us much too early, but we are comforted by the fact that her loving husband cared for at home until her final days.

It is hard to grip the loss of such a beautiful woman. Her warmth and smile and kindness touched so many lives, and she remained resilient and strong ’til the bitter end. All those that knew her and those that met her briefly were touched by her loving nature. I am grateful for all that she imparted on me and I will always cherish my aunt’s memories. I can still hear her reassuring voice saying, ‘take it one day at a time, that’s all we can do’. May we carry her love and may she rest in peace.

Margaret could fill a room with her exuberance and joy of life. Her laugh was infectious and she loved all of us with her whole heart. She will be dearly missed, yet I believe she is free of the ties that had bound her toward the end. We will hold her in our memory and find her is a cleverly tied scarf, a reflection in a store window or a brilliantly turned word. Thank you God for the pleasure of her friendship.

Momma Margaret, as I call her, was such an inspiration to me. She constantly reminded me of the strength we all have inside, she never stopped encouraging me to reach for the stars. On my darkest days she reminded me of all the beauty and love in the world. Her hugs have comforted me on the days I needed it the most. Through the years I have collected all the wonderful cards she gave me, I look at them often and am reminded of how wonderful Momma Margaret is. I will carry her forever in my heart.
    Love,
    Steph & Elise

My sincerest condolences to the whole family. Margaret was such a loving and caring person who was always welcoming of me into their home as a child. I grew up in the same building and, I remember her boundless energy as she would wake up early every morning singing along to CBS-FM as she bounced around the apartment while she got ready to go to work… she even had these really cool vintage walnut colored Bose 901 speakers hanging from her ceiling in the living room. I also remember her bedroom being full with law books as she returned to school later in life to become an attorney. She indeed had great taste and style, and was a very classy women. She raised both her boys on her own as they grew to become young men. I’m very sorry Jimmy, John, and Fred… she will be dearly missed. Godspeed ??????
