Mark D. Engelmann, 69, of Peekskill, NY, passed away on February 17, 2024, in New York, NY.
He was born on July 1, 1954 to Catherine Handy and Hans B. Engelmann. Mark grew up in Peekskill, and later, Woodberry Forest, VA where Catherine and Hans taught language at Woodberry Forest School. He graduated from Hampshire College in 1977 and obtained his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984.
Mark was an attorney who focused on protecting intellectual property, and was a partner at Fross, Zelnick, Lehrman & Zissu, for many decades before retiring in 2016.
Beyond his professional life, Mark had a wide range of interests and hobbies. His interests included ballet, the theater, and chamber music. He enjoyed playing tennis and ping pong, and found joy in angling and skiing as well. He loved to travel, and he shared these passions with his daughter from an early age.
Appreciative as he was of New York City’s arts and culture, he was equally content cheering on the Yankees and his beloved UConn Women’s basketball team or fishing in the wilds of Montana with his family.
Perhaps Mark’s greatest passion was his love of fine dining and wine. He was a regular at many of Manhattan’s finest restaurants, and a member of an exclusive group of wineries after many decades of collecting. He loved to gather his many friends to share good food and wine together.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Catherine, whom he cherished above all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen. Mark will be remembered for his professional achievements, diverse interests, and most of all, his devotion to his family.
