Delaney, Thomas Francis – Fred H. McGrath & Son, Inc.

Thomas F. Delaney, 70, passed away too soon, on November 12, 2020. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Linda, with whom he had a joyous relationship for the past 34 years. He was a proud father of his children Kristin (Austin Wheeler), Thomas (Carolee), and Lisa Esbaugh, and a delighted grandfather of his five adoring grandchildren.

Born in New York City and raised in Bronxville, NY, Tom was the son of Carroll J. and Mary (Reilly) Delaney. He attended St. Joseph School in Bronxville. Tom graduated from Fordham University and earned his MBA from NYU where he and his wife, Linda, began their devoted relationship. He retired after a distinguished 40-year career with CBS as Senior Vice President of Market Resources.

He was an avid sportsman and accomplished sailor, enjoying many sails with his family and friends. Tom developed this love at an early age on his uncle John D. Reilly’s sailboat, which was only the beginning. He created a life of adventure that took him across the globe: exploring Bronxville with the LPW Angels, sailing to Bermuda, scuba diving in Australia, tobogganing in Japan, golf in Florida, and eating clam chowder and lobsters in every port in New England. Tom was the family pool shark and Wiffle ball champion, teaching his children and grandchildren a love of the game and the endless pursuit of fun.

Tom was filled with energy and spirit and served on many esteemed boards. He had a great love for celebration and was always the heart of every gathering. For every season, he schemed to bring laughter and excitement to everyone, especially his children, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. Throughout his life, Tom also extended that warm spirit to friends and neighbors. He will be remembered for supporting his friends and family through their shining moments as well as their difficult times.

Tom was predeceased by his brother, Carroll (Pamela), and is survived by his sisters, Mary Jane and Marianne, and brother, John (Eileen), as well as loving relatives and many lifetime friends.

His zest for life and devotion to family will live on in our hearts forever.

A private service will be held for immediate family on November 16, 2020 at 10:45am but friends may live stream the mass by going to www.mcgrathandson.com. A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held at a future date.

You were a brother to my father and like an uncle to me and Peter. You never failed to help a friend in need and your sense of humor could lighten any situation. We all loved you and we will all miss you.

Tom, I have over 45 years of memories with you and our families. You raised Two wonderful children, Kristen and Thomas, family was always first and foremost. Your holiday dinners were filled with tradition, the plum pudding lighting, family, and friends surrounded at the table for a night of a good meal and great conversation. You made everyone feel welcome. You were a rock when our family needed to distress from my chemo treatments. You would stop by and cheer everyone up. We had great adventures with you and Linda, from sailing trips to our trip to Mexico.
You will be sorely missed.

For our group of friends growing up, you were the original gentleman bon vivant. You showed us it was possible to be both the life of the party and the rock of your family.

Thank you for your endless warmth and generosity over the years. You made so many people better for having known you.

No words can begin to express the huge crater in our hearts caused by Tom’s passing. He was a devoted friend for decades who could always be counted on to be there in a time of need. We loved boating with our fun-loving buddy and sharing stories about our kids. Tom was proud of his children and their accomplishments, and he never faltered asking about our boys, who he clearly loved. Tom’s smile and warm companionship will never be forgotten. Tom,
In 2012 you took a chance on an eager college graduate and hired me to be your assistant. I got to know you and learned that the only thing you loved more than sailing was your family. Over the next five years you advocated for me as I climbed up the corporate ladder. Always supportive, always there to assist, always smiling.

Tom, you will be sorely missed.

Today is a very sad day for me. My oldest and best friend was buried today. A man of many friends and a loving devoted family. Knowing this about Tom gives me a perverse comfort in my grief knowing that every friend feels the pain.
I will always be proud and honored to have been a friend of Tommy Delaney . He was the very definition of a “ Stand up Guy “, he will be missed sorely, especially by me.
