Clark, Robert B. December 20, 1930 - December 6, 2018

Robert B. Clark, age 87, of Mount Vernon, NY passed away on Thursday December 6, 2018.  Robert (known as Bob) was born to Andrew and Elanor Clark of Astoria, NY on December 20, 1930.  Bob graduated from Glen Cove High School on Long Island, then attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy from 1949 until 1951, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served aboard the Destroyer USS James C. Owens from 1952 until 1956, and in the U.S. Naval Reserves until 1960.  Following his service to our country, Bob attended Long Island University C.W Post Campus, earning a degree in Engineering while also working at the Sperry Corporation. After graduating, Bob enjoyed a more than 25-year career at the Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage, NY until his retirement in 1992.  During his time there, he worked on numerous key programs including the F-14 Tomcat, E-2C Hawkeye, and Apollo Lunar Module.  A long-time resident of Huntington, NY, Bob married Willy Jane on July 9, 1966, and together they raised their son Christopher.  Bob was active with his son in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and coached youth soccer. He enjoyed a good round of golf and loved to watch his beloved NY Rangers hit the ice. However, his favorite pastime by far was showing his son, Chris, how to fix anything and everything mechanical.  Bob was predeceased by his brother James, his parents Andrew and Elanor, his wife Willy Jane, and sister Anna.  He is survived by his son Christopher and daughter-in-law Claudette. Family, friends, and others whose lives Bob touched are invited to the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville, NY, from 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday December 11, 2018, to celebrate his life. A private burial in Laurel Hollow, NY will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family knows Bob would have appreciated memorial donations be made in the name of Robert B. Clark to the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, NY. www.cradleofaviation.org/support/donate.html
