Ciampi, Rohini May 18, 1969 - March 8, 2023

Rohini Ciampi passed away at the age of 53 on March 8, 2023 after a brave battle with breast cancer.  She was born in India to Vice-Admiral K.R. Menon and Nalina Menon and moved to the U.S. at the age of 18 to study at Concordia College, where she excelled.  She later married Richard J. Ciampi, Jr. and they embarked on a wonderful journey together raising three children – Renata, Julia, and Richie.  Ro was a terrific daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend.  She was active in every aspect of her children’s lives. Her inner and outer beauty shone like a beacon as she listened and provided insight and advice to family and friends who sought it. She was warm, fun, lively, and intelligent with intense determination.  She loved running and traveling around the world.  Later, her passion for travel would drive her to create her own travel agency.  She had a beautiful smile, a zest for life, and embodied love.  Her family and friends were blessed to be enveloped by her love. Ro is survived by her mother, Nalina Menon (India), brothers Ramesh (Saugerties, NY) and Madan (Singapore), sister-in-law Ruma, nieces Nishka and Ayesha, and nephew Oliver.  Her brother-in-law, Robert, and niece, Robin, predeceased her.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Julie Ciampi, and in-laws, Julia and Richard Ciampi. To celebrate her life, family and friends will gather on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 4PM-8PM at Fred H McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville, NY.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 10:30AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe, NY. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the name of Rohini Ciampi to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Calling Hours:  4 to 8 pm, Friday, March 10, 2023

Mass:  10:30 am, Saturday, March 11, 2023, Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe, NY

As heartbreaking as this is to write and words fail me, I need to articulate what Ro or Chakki (as known to us) meant to my family and me. She was my first cousin, my dad and her mom are siblings. Chakki was about 9 when I was born and her first comment when she saw me as a baby was”whats wrong with her eyes-I apparently had the largest scariest eyes she had ever seen! I feel her warmth and this sense of humour even as she has moved on to another dimension.
My childhood memories of her were at our grandparents home in India, many summer holidays were spent there, me admiring a bigger older version of me( we do have similarities in physical attributes). She was ever so kind, gentle and tolerant of a pesky younger cousin…
When she first moved to the US, we looked forward to her yearly visits but as time went by and life came in the way of things, the physical distance disconnected us. Inspite of this, through this phase of adulthood and when my own family grew, I always knew she reached out to my parents as much as she could and only had good wishes and love in her heart.
While many will remember her as the most amazing wife and mom, I will also remember her as a wonderful daughter. She is smiling with her Dad in heaven now, she was everything and more to him.
Her children are her legacy and we can be rest assured they are infused with her joyous spirit and compassionate soul.
    Love always, Namrita

Rohini, there’s family, and you know what family is because you adored yours. And I had the privilege of meeting them all. My heart is broken for them. And then, there’s “family” of friends and immigrants. Immigrants gravitate to one another. Concordia College, 1988. Two newly arrived still teenagers met. And that was the beginning of a 35 year old friendship. There were gaps in our lives, as we moved, changed numbers, lost touch before the Internet. But our paths always met again. And I am blessed to say that our last decade, along with college, was the BEST. You knew my entire life. In time, I will celebrate you. And you’ll live in my heart forever. But for today, I’ve lost a limb. I feel robbed and cheated. But you are in a better place!!! The only thing that brings me a faint smile is imagining your dog, the first one because she’s the fastest one, galloping to you as you reunite!!! You’re in a better place!!! And that’s what matters. But the rest of us… feel robbed. Prayers to your beautiful family. The world mourns today. Love you always, my Ro. ❤️

Chakki Aunty was, by all accounts, incredibly brave and strong and beautiful, and always put her family first. I haven’t had the privilege of meeting her often, as we lived on 2 different continents, but she was always sweet in our interactions. Sending love and support to her family.

Dear Rich, Renata, Julia, Richie, Mrs. Menon, Ramesh,

We are all thinking and praying for your family. We all have so many great memories of Chakki’s warmth and kindness. I remember when she had to slip out of a gathering one night to go meet Rich when they first began dating. Then how beautiful their wedding was in July 1998 in Saratoga.

We will continue to pray for Chakki’s spirit that will live within us forever.

    Lots of love,

    Hope

Such a beautiful human being and lovely family. I may not have had the pleasure of her company often, but whenever I did, she was pure joy and grace. No doubt she has passed that along to her children and she will be reflected in their lives for sure. What a tragic loss. Prayers for peace for the entire family.
