Amato, Caroline Iandoli April 24, 2024

Caroline Iandoli Amato of Bronxville, NY and Brooksville, FL died peacefully on Wednesday April 6, 2011, after a short illness.  She was 90 years young. Originally from Yonkers, NY, she was born October 2, 1920, the youngest of seven children of Angelina and Carmine D’Apice.  She was the sister of Philomena (Fanny) McLaughlin, Rosetta Donoghue, Frank, Nutch, Patsy and John D. D’Apice. In 1954, she married Nicholas Iandoli with whom she shared 32 wonderful years before his death in 1996.  While they had no children of their own, she was blessed with eleven adoring nieces and nephews who recently flew to Florida to surprise her at a party celebrating her 90th birthday. At 78, she found love again with Vincent Amato of Bronxville and they married in 1998.  He had two children, Dr. Peter Amato and Carol McLeary, formerly of Bronxville.  Through him she became the ‘grandmother’ of Peter, Christopher, and Lauren Amato; Brian and Kimberly McCleary and the ‘great-grandmother’ of Mira, Ellena, and Alexander Amato.  Vincent pre-deceased her in 2004. Caroline was a beautiful woman inside and out and possessed a classically trained operatic voice.  A song was always on her lips and along with her husband Nick, a natural tenor, they frequently gave concerts throughout Westchester County for years.  While this was a joyous avocation for them both, her vocation was as a dedicated high-school teacher in the Yonkers school system for over 30 years. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Vincent College and received her Master’s degree from Case Western Reserve. She leaves behind many loving family and friends including the very special Frank Palmieri of Brooksville, her nieces Susan DiChiara, Penny DeLoca, Jane Vergari, Joanne Thornton, Elizabeth Fusilier and Claire Swirtzer, her nephews John, James, Frank, Andrew and Peter D’Apice, 25 great nieces and nephews and 16 grand nieces and nephews. Caroline was an incredible lady in every sense of the word.  She will be missed by all who had the good fortune of “Getting To Know” her. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 5 to 8 pm Friday. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville on Saturday April 9 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in her memory to HPH Hospice, 12242 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, FL 34613.
