Maria Brusco, age 80, died peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at her home in Yonkers, New York. It is fitting that she left to be with the Lord on the feast day of the Good Shepherd. She was surrounded by her family. Maria was born in Piedimonte Matese, Caserta Italy and was the middle of three children. She attended Columbus High School in the Bronx and Hunter College, where she obtained Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. Maria went on to teach Spanish, Italian and Latin at DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. She believed that learning and teaching should be lifelong vocations. After having five children, she continued with her graduate studies and received a Master of Arts degree in Comparative Literature from Columbia University. Maria’s perseverance was a testament to her deep-rooted faith. She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years Nicola Brusco, her sister Rina and brother Joseph, her five children Joseph, Nicholas, Paul, John and Cristina, eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath and Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville, between the hours of 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church St. Joseph’s in Bronxville, New York on Wednesday, April 25, at 9:45am. The entire Brusco family would like to express their gratitude to the community for its support and to the staff of Scarsdale Medical Center.
