Michael James Ansbro “Beaver”, of White Plains, passed away on January 22, 2018. Son of the late Catherine Connolly and Frank M. Ansbro. Loving and supportive father of Laura Catherine (Holly Brown) Ansbro and David James (Ashley) Ansbro. Devoted “Granddaddy” of Morly Selma and Ryder James. Dear brother of Robert (Regina) Ansbro. Best friend of Nathan (Abby and their daughter Sophia) Heston and Byron Hartley (Carol). Revered uncle, friend, and coach to many. Michael grew up in the Fleetwood section of Mt. Vernon and was active at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, especially in the basketball program. He later attended Stepinac High School where he helped lead his basketball team to the finals of the national championship.   He went on to have a wonderful 39 year teaching career in the Rye City School District at Midland Elementary School. “Coach A.” had an unparalleled passion for kids and coached many sports including basketball, tennis and soccer. He enthusiastically led a group of young basketball players called the Midland Magicians and later another which included his son David, the Westchester Wizards. “Mr. A” also spent 32 fun-filled summers as Day Camp Director at Shenorock Shore Club in Rye. Most recently, he was very proud of his work as Chairman of the Board for the Academic Leadership Charter School in the South Bronx. He continued to enjoy his free time playing tennis at the Armonk Tennis Club and throughout Westchester. He was a relentless advocate for kids and the underprivileged and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The life-long impact on his family, friends, and students is immeasurable. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville, on Thursday, January 25th at 9:45 AM. . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Michael J Ansbro to Stepinac High School in White Plains or the charity of your choice.
