De Rienzo, Paul Peter October 4, 1927 - February 12, 2023

Paul P De Rienzo was born in Brooklyn to hard-working immigrants from Southern Italy. He was proud of his heritage and was fond of saying, “I am so lucky to be from Brooklyn.” His first job was loading radioactive material in submarines at the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a part of the War effort.  Like his father Angelo, who served in the United States Army in World War I, Paul was called to serve at the very end of World War II, but as he was fond of telling everyone the recruitment officer saw his coke bottle glasses and heard of his plans to go to college and told him, “You’ll serve your country better as an engineer.”

And he did just that, after Boys High School, Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, and New York University he worked as an electrical engineer, building nuclear power plants and desalination plants across the globe, usually with his wife in tow.

Paul is survived by his sons, Paul, James, John and daughter, Giselle; daughter in laws Jeannie, Rebecca, and son in law Peter.  He was Grandfather to Amber, E. Peter, Matthew, Arias, Marielle, Stephen, Elena, Paul, Crystal, Dylan, Juliet, Olivia, Joshua, Rachel and great grandfather to  Myles, Piero, Sterling and Sylas.  He also leaves behind his beloved sisters, Mary, and Irene. He also loved his nieces and nephews, Mary (David), Francesca (Adam), Joseph (Lisa) and their children, Jordan, Joe, William, Marianna, Jessica, and Amanda.

Paul was a devout Catholic, a master storyteller and avid opera aficionado.  He loved sports teams that had anything to do with Brooklyn, and most of all he loved his family.  He will be missed immensely but his kindness and love for everyone will live forever.

I remember the smile in his eyes as he watched Giselle perform on stage and as he walked her down the aisle.
Mr. DeRienzo was always welcoming and kind. He had a great sense humor and I pray that the family will cherish all the good memories. May he rest in peace .
