
Jane Wendover McClusky, of Yonkers, died Oct. 19 at Lawrence Hospital Center, Bronxville, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 19, 1920 in Mount Vernon, the only daughter of Alfred Lovell Wendover and Elsie Hansman Wendover. She graduated from Mount Vernon schools and also graduated from Drake Business School in Manhattan. In the 1940s, she was a medical secretary at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital’s Institute of Ophthalmology. On Dec. 25, 1945, she married the love of her life and best friend Capt. Charles R. McClusky and moved with him to fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, where he was stationed in the U.S. Army. After they returned to the Yonkers/Bronxville area, they had two children, Kathy and Jeff. Her life then revolved around her husband and her children’s activities and interests. Jane gave unwavering support to Charlie during his career at Union Carbide Corp. For her children, she was active in and an officer of St. Joseph’s Mother’s Club, Boy Scout Troop 2, and Girl Scout 19, all in Bronxville. Her volunteer work included Meals-on-Wheels, the Red Cross and the Church of St. Joseph. She had a passion for traveling. For the past 20 years she explored many corners of the globe with her daughter aboard her favorite ship, Queen Elizabeth 2. She was a Diamond member of Cunard’s World Club as well as a Grand Mariner in the Holland America’s Mariner Society. She was an avid book reader and until this recent illness read the New York Times from cover –to-cover daily. Her husband Charles died in 1972. She is survived by her devoted daughter Kathryn J. of Yonkers, and son Jeffrey C. McClusky of Evanston, Illinois and his wife Jill, and two beloved granddaughters, Lauren and Rachel. She is also survived by a very special cousin, Joan Hamm of Nokomis, FL, and several nieces and nephews. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Her zest for life and her caring about her family knew no bounds. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville, where a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be held on Friday, Oct. 22 at 10am. Interment is private. Viewing will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, 20 Cedar St., Bronxville. 914-337-6770.
